Safe Staffing

Aspirus is committed to operating with staffing levels that prioritize patient outcomes and the well-being of all team members.

A collaborative staffing approach that allows us to address each patient’s needs is critical in our ever-changing health care environment. Aspirus is committed to sustaining the best nursing workforce. We actively recruit and develop skilled staff nurses to serve our communities with excellence and compassion.

We're working to close that gap not only by hiring more nurses but also incentivizing nurses to commit to working 32 hours per week or more. This will help us to fully staff every shift well in advance, creating certainty for the entire care team.

We are staying true to what matters most – safe, high-quality care and supporting the professionals who deliver it.

Proof Points:

  • There’s a nationwide nursing shortage and we are constantly looking to hire more staff nurses.
  • Aspirus St. Luke’s nurses work an average of 26.8 hours per week, which allows them to receive full benefits which start at 24 hours per week (a 0.6 FTE).
  • We need to revise the current incentive structure to encourage nurses to work more than 0.6 FTE and move towards full-time hours.
  • Overtime pay for nurses is about $650 per shift.
